The usual issue is stripped threads - more of an issue with the Aeromarine range because the crown tube is integral to the middle case so more costly to address if it's not under warranty. It will need service attention. I've taken great care of it, but recently, I encountered an issue where the crown wouldn't screw in. I sent it to Breitling, and unfortunately, they mentioned there's been some impact damage, not covered by the warranty. The repair . Won't hurt to get it checked, but the screw down is nothing to do with the date change. It may be nothing more than dirt preventing it from screwing down more.

The threads seem to have worn away or cross threaded to the point it no longer screws down. I read up online and apparently this is common with retail ones, with no longer term solution as it does reoccur once fixed. As you press the crown in to screw it down, the stem prevents part A from pressing in, so the spring compresses. Depending on the exact design that msybir may not disengage the squares, allowing you to turn the crown without continuing to wind the watch.
